'Blackthorn' is a 38 foot Narrowboat built by Hancock & Lane in 1978

Blackthorn, as she was, moored in the old Hotwells Sand Dock in Bristol Harbour.

Blackthorn's previous owner kept her moored only a few yards away in this same dock for several years, then moved her to the 'Mill Island' Marina at Saltford for a year, to enable quicker access to River Avon and the City of Bath.

I purchased Blackthorm on 31st December 2004 and sold her on in October 2005, (in order to raise some cash for a business project), after having an enjoyable Spring and Summer using her to carry friends on cruises around Bristol Harbour, and also some peaceful river trips on the River Avon up to to Bath mooring up for long weekends. Her new owner now keeps her moored on the Kennet & Avon, upstream of Bath.

Blackthorn is powered by a twin-cylinder 1.27 litre Lister ST2 air-cooled diesel engine, generating a maximum of 20bhp. She has a 50 gallon diesel-tank at the stern and a 150 gallon water-tank at the bow. I have converted the 3-berth layout at the time of purchase, back to 4-berth, to accommodate my wife and two children on our 'adventures'.
