A defining moment, as three guitarists and two voices create that perfect harmonising of sounds. Abby sings, Neil plays Bass guitar, James on Acoustic guitar and singing, while Richard makes fabulous sounds with his lead guitar....... (just four members of the Coalition this Monday evening)

Wednesday 28th May 2008. The "Coalition of the Willing" playing at The Prom - Music - Bar - Cafe

It was a warm summer evening as I wandered aimlessly along an almost deserted Gloucester Road. In the far distance I could hear the hypnotic chilled-out music of some fine-sounding musicians, and the sweet calling of a saxophone, guitars and harmonies. I kept on walking, ever being drawn towards the source of these magical sounds, only to find dozens of other Bristol people had been similarly enticed there, and had gathered together to watch and listen.

Making my way forward through the massed crowd I came across these nine musicians who call themselves collectively - "The Coalition of the Willing" - as each are solo musicians in their own right (click to their Myspace links in their names to read and listen).

The guitar James is playing here in this image had been stored in his loft for two months before tonight's gig, so when he started playing the "twiddly bits" on the guitar, the dust from the strings made him sneeze with amusing consequences, as he discovered a chord he'd never ever played before!

Below, the Coalition at the Robin Hood Pub, St Michael's Hill, on 26th April 2008.

A tight squeeze on the stage at the Robin Hood Pub for their first night as the "Coalition" play some completely unrehearsed numbers in the set, but it all worked out fine with great applause from the Pub audience ..... If you look carefully you can see it's only Simeon, the Drummer, who is actually on the stage.
